ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHS ON THIS SITE:

These images are NOT from US Department of Defense archives but are the work of several accomplished and experienced private photographers with many years experience covering modern military subjects and communities.

Most of the photographs involved special access and support from branches of the armed forces through their individual public affairs officers. This support is only provided to qualified photographers working on approved projects.

Production of these photographs involves danger and risk and large financial expenses. The image of the F-15E Strike Eagle in the header was made just before the aircraft passed over the photographer's head at 500mph and at an altitude of about fifty feet. The photograph was made during a week's deployment with US Air Force Joint Tactical Air Controllers in the Nevada desert.

Hans Halberstadt spent a week aboard a US Navy fleet resupply ship to get the images of ships of the Navy. His coverage of Army and Marine Corps snipers required two months of travel to Fort Benning, Georgia, in 2006, and he has spent several weeks with the Air Force during 2007.
